Description

XIV CENTURY GREAT HELM

Note : This listing only Helmet other part show in photo not included

14th century great helmet from private collection.
Mentioned helmets look similar to the great helm Bolzano (approx. 1300). But they have been made of more embossed form and higher quality. Approximately after 1350 this type of helmet was used mostly during jousting and tournaments. However, up to the beginning of the XV century we still can find illustrations showing the knights wearing great helm during the battle.

Our late XIV century Great Helm is equipped with the leather strap. It is constructed of 5 overlapped plates. The reinforcement rib crosses the front part of the helmet. Breathing holes are drilled on the right side. The eye slots have raised edges. Two cross-shaped holes are on both sides of the helmet.
